The Tush Show | in brief:

The Tush Show, or more correctly, “Tush”, was a one hour comedy variety show produced in-house at WTBS that launched on December 7, 1980 (Pearl Harbor Day), and ran for two seasons. The show starred Bill Tush, and featured a talented ensemble cast including Jan Hooks (SNL and Designing Women). As well, “Tush” marked the television writing and producing debut of husband and wife team Bonnie and Terry Turner. The Turners would later go on to write for SNL before producing such hits as: Third Rock from the Sun, That 70s Show and a score of successful movies including Coneheads and Wayne's World.

Each episode of “Tush” was tied together by a loose theme, around which skits and guests appearances were woven together. The main set consisted of a hotel hallway, with Bill as the hotel’s proprietor. Along the hallway, various doors would open to reveal a cast of characters including celebrities, space aliens and televangelists, to name a few. Most secondary sets (those used for skits), were cobbled together from found or donated props and costumes were fashioned in much the same manner. The resourcefulness of the crew often resulted in visual gags as funny as those performed.

Although the show was taped in Atlanta, fans will remember there was never a shortage of big name guests. This was due in no small part to the fledgling Cable News Network, (launched the same year), that became a regular stop for stars filming in Atlanta or those promoting a project. Since CNN was located one floor below WTBS, guests would often drop by unexpectedly during taping of “Tush” and were always eagerly incorporated into the show.

We are currently working on an episode guide to "Tush", as well as DVD copies of individual episodes for limited distribution to fans of the show. When it's done, you'll be the first to know.
