| CNN | Quick take: In 1982 Bill moved over to the CNN side of Turner Broadcasting, but continued to appear on WTBS for special projects. As luck would have it, his first gig at CNN was guest hosting for Mike Douglas on People Now. Shortly thereafter, Bill was named host of the show after Douglas departed for vacation and never returned. Having made the move to Los Angeles, for the next eight months Bill interviewed hundreds of stars, including the then unknown Tom Cruise. The following year, in an attempt to compete with Entertainment Tonight, CNN launched "Showbiz Today". Bill was chosen as anchor, which required he relocate once again, this time to New York City. For nearly twenty years, NYC was the base from which he frequently traveled to cover premiers, The Academy Awards, The Emmys, Grammys and dozens of other awards shows and entertainment events for CNN. During this time he also hosted CNNs highly rated "ShowBiz This Week", which took him to set locations, backstage Broadway, international festivals and events, including the Cannes Film Festival. Bill left CNN in 2002, after it became apparent that he had indeed met everyone. No ones know where he'll pop up next, but he was last seen driving his 1950 Lincoln Cosmopolitan into the Georgia sunset. Stay tuned... |
